CURRICULUM
At Western, we are committed to providing students with a thoughtfully structured and rigorous educational experience. In accordance with state requirements, this page outlines the instructional materials used across our reading and writing curriculum, including textbook publishers, novels and texts studied at each grade level, and the remedial programs available to support learners who need additional assistance.
To help families, students, and our community understand the learning journey in each course, we also provide detailed curriculum maps for every grade level. These maps highlight:
-
Course Overviews that summarize the purpose, structure, and expectations of each class
-
Enduring Understandings – the big ideas students will carry with them beyond the course
-
Essential Questions – the guiding questions that shape inquiry and deepen learning
-
Indiana Academic Standards addressed throughout instruction
-
Assessments used to monitor student progress and demonstrate mastery
-
Texts, tools, and technology integrated to support learning
We invite you to explore these resources to learn more about the high-quality instruction and thoughtful planning that guide teaching and learning at Western. Our goal is to ensure every student is equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to thrive both in the classroom and beyond.
