Department of Exceptional Learners and Testing

Welcome to the Western School Corporation Department of Exceptional Learners and Testing! The DELT office collaborates with students, schools, families, and the community to assist with creating specialized opportunities for personal growth and success. The goal of the DELT office is to ensure educational equity and excellence of instruction for students with disabilities. By working collaboratively with schools, students, parents and other stakeholders, every student with a disability has an Individualized Education Plan that is designed and based on the best practices in special education. A student’s academic, social, emotional, physical and management needs are supported through a variety of special education services. When determining appropriate services, the Committee on Special Education must consider how a child’s unique needs can be met in the least restrictive environment (LRE). Specialized programs through
our partnership with Kokomo Area Special Education Cooperative (KASEC) can be found in each of our schools and depending on the needs of the child. We believe that all students deserve an inclusive educational experience that supports them in meeting their individual goals and dreams. We believe that advocating for students in conjunction with multiple stakeholders will help to reduce ableism in our schools and society. Areas of responsibility include: Special Education, Section 504, High Ability, English Language Learners, Title IX, McKinney Vento, Foster Youth, and Local, State and National Testing. The DELT Office strives to operate with best practices, integrity, and fiscal responsibility, focusing on cultivating experiences to enhance student well-being and achievement. If you need assistance, please feel free to contact us.
